Effective October 1, 2015, HCPCS code S3854 (gene expression profiling panel for use in the management of breast cancer treatment) is a non-benefit. Beginning October 1, 2015, providers should bill with CPT code 81519 (oncology [breast], mRNA, gene expression profiling by real-time RT-PCR of 21 genes, utilizing formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue, algorithm reported as recurrence score) in place of HCPCS code S3854.
