UHC Implements DEX Z-Code Requirements on Medicare Advantage Claims Starting June 1, 2021
April 7, 2021this post was updated on June 1, 2021.
In March 2021, United Healthcare announced an updated policy for Medicare Advantage plans, whereas they will be requiring providers to include the appropriate DEX Z-Code identifier on claims beginning June 1, 2021. United Healthcare has announced this policy update has been delayed and will not be implemented on June 1, 2021. Further communication will be provided prior to the new implementation date. XiFin will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.
In the same format as Medicare, the Z-code will be submitted in Loop 2400. While UHC will not require a separate registration of these z-codes, providers will need to ensure qualifying tests are registered with the MolDx Program.
If a provider has not already registered their test for a DEX Z test code they can register at MolDX® Program (Administered by Palmetto GBA)
To access and obtain a DEX Z-Code identifier, visit the DEXTM Diagnostics Exchange, select “Register My Organization” and follow the prompts, including participation in the MolDX program.
XiFin has confirmed this does not fall under the same initiative as the laboratory test registry, which has been delayed until January 1, 2022.
