Stool Test for Helicobacter Pylori Added to List of CLIA-Waived Codes

Effective for dates of service on or after January 1, 2017, CPT code 87338 (infectious agent antigen detection by immunoassay technique, qualitative or semiquantitative, multiple-step method; helicobacter pylori, stool) is being added to the list of CLIA waived codes. Modifier QW may be billed with this code to signify that the CLIA-waived kit was used. Modifier QW also indicates that the test was performed by a laboratory with a current and appropriate CLIA certificate and a California clinical laboratory Certificate of Registration.
