Reprocessing of Lipid Panel Claims Billed with Non-Specific Diagnosis Codes

Effective retroactively for dates of service on or after October 1, 2015, CPT code 80061 (lipid panel) may be billed with non-specific ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes Z00.0 (encounter for general adult medical examination) and Z00.8 (encounter for other general examination). Effective retroactively for dates of service on or after July 23, 2007, through September 30, 2015, code 80061 was reimbursable for non-specific ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes V70.0 (routine general medical examination at a health care facility) and V70.8 (other specified general medical examinations). Affected claims will be reprocessed via an Erroneous Payment Correction (EPC). No action is required of providers.
