Novitas – Monkeypox laboratory codes

On July 26, the AMA created the new code 87593 (infectious agent detection by nucleic acid [DNA or RNA]; orthopoxvirus [e.g., monkeypox virus, cowpox virus, vaccinia virus], amplified probe technique, each MD: IADNA ORTOPOXVIRUS AMPLIFIED PROBE TECHNIQUE EA SD: ORTHOPOXVIRUS AMP PRB EACH) for diagnostic testing.

Billing and payment

The code is effective for dates of service on and after July 26, 2022, and the payment rate for our jurisdictions for Part A and Part B has been set at $51.31.
