Noninvasive prenatal testing

Noninvasive prenatal testing codes are used to detect chromosomal abnormalities. There are currently an additional 35 lab codes that test for chromosomal abnormalities aside from the noninvasive prenatal testing codes. Effective December 1, 2016 Aetna will no longer pay for the 35 lab codes when billed with noninvasive prenatal testing codes as these procedures differ in technique or approach but lead to the same outcome. Modifier 59 will be restricted from overriding these edits.
