April 4, 2023On December 16, 2022, the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) announced in the article titled “Monkeypox Vaccines and Laboratory Test Added as Family PACT Benefits” that mpox vaccine administration and laboratory testing are Family Planning, Access, Care and Treatment (Family PACT) benefits from August 17, 2022 through the end of the federal mpox Public Health Emergency (PHE). On December 2, 2022, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced its intention to end the mpox PHE on January 31, 2023.
Effective for dates of service on or after February 1, 2023, the mpox vaccines and laboratory tests are no longer Family PACT benefits. The Family PACT Policies, Procedures, and Billing Instructions (PPBI) manual will soon be updated to reflect this change.
