Medicare Advantage Bonuses Poised to Drop This Year for First Time Since 2015, KFF Says
September 26, 2024For 2024, Medicare Advantage (MA) quality bonus payments will decline by 8%, totaling $11.8 billion. UnitedHealthcare and Humana are expected to earn around half of this amount, receiving $3.4 billion and $2.5 billion respectively, though the drop in star ratings across many plans is contributing to the overall decline in bonuses. This is the first reduction in MA star bonuses since 2015, reflecting the expiration of COVID-era policies that temporarily inflated plan ratings in previous years.
