CPT code 87077 Reimbursable Under PE Program

Effective for dates of service on or after January 1, 2014, CPT code 87077 (aerobic isolate, additional methods required for definitive identification, each isolate) is reimbursable under the Presumptive Eligibility program. Many cultures grow organisms for which the initial evaluation for presumptive identification cannot differentiate between pathogenic and non-pathogenic organisms. Code 87077 is used to report that definitive identification procedures were performed. This service is a current Medi-Cal benefit.
