CMS Rescinds Proposal to Delete NOC ICD-10 Codes
June 20, 2022CMS is rescinding its proposal to delete the NOC (Not Otherwise Specified) ICD-10-CM codes from NCD 90.2 for NGS testing on advanced cancer patients.
In May 2021, CMS announced it would be deleting a number of ICD-10 cancer diagnosis codes which made breast and lung cancer claims payable under NGS testing effective July 1, 2022. However, after industry protest, on June 10, 2022, in transmittal 11453 CMS stated they would be retaining all ICD-10 NOC diagnosis codes proposed for deletion.
“Although CMS is not moving forward with deleting the aforementioned ICD-10 NOC diagnosis codes, we continue to strongly encourage providers and laboratories to ensure the best possible and most specific code is provided on the claim in accordance with the implementation of ICD-10 in 2015. CMS will be monitoring these laboratory claims and may take future action to reinstate removal of these ICD-10 NOC codes.”
