Certain Lab Procedure Codes Billed With Nonspecific ICD-9-CM Codes

Effective for dates of service on or after August 1, 2009, laboratory procedure CPT-4 codes 82270, 82272, 82274, 82465, 83718, 83719, 83721 and 84478 can be billed with non-specific ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes V70.0 and V70.8 as well as any other appropriate ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes.

Note: ICD-9-CM diagnosis code V72.6 (laboratory examination) has been added to the list of non-specific diagnosis “excludes” for all laboratory CPT-4 codes.
